how to buy Annual Travel Insurance

  • Select the Appropriate Region

Select the highest region (ie the one that is furthest away) for the destinations you plan to visit this year.  If you're not sure, choose "Worldwide" to ensure that you're covered.

  • Select your maximum trip duration - there are 2 options

Our Frequent Traveller Plan also known as an Annual Multi-Trip policy offers cover for an unlimited number of trips within a 12-month period. Maximum journey lengths will apply to your cover - each individual trip can be up to 21 days or 45 days in duration depending upon which option you choose. For overseas trips, it offers all the benefits of our Comprehensive Plan; and for domestic trips, it offers all the benefits of the Domestic Plan.

1. Frequent traveller 21 days is for travellers who tend to take several shorter trips throughout the year. Each individual trip you take under your policy will need to be under 21 days in duration.

2. Frequent traveller 45 days is the most flexible option if your trips are between 3 to 6 weeks, especially if you can't predict how long each trip might be.  We generally find that this suits most people's trip length.  Each individual trip you take must be 45 days or less in duration.

Annual multi-trip policies aren't designed for long-term travel, but rather the convenience of knowing you're covered all year from shorter trips.
If you're heading on a holiday that is longer than the policy option you select, you will need need to buy a single-trip policy to cover that trip.

  • Customise your policy

You can choose to add High-Value Items, Ski Cover, Car Rental Excess or Cruise Cover.

  • Tell us about any pre-existing medical conditions

Our simple online tool will ask you a few questions & give you an immediate decision in seconds after the quote.
Any additional premium loading will be added if the pre-existing conditions are not already automatically covered for free.

  • What’s The Difference Between A Frequent Traveller Policy & A Single Trip Policy?
  • Frequent Traveller policies provides cover for an unlimited number of journeys over a 12 month period. The maximum duration of cover for any one journey will depend upon which policy option you have selected. You can choose to cover trips that are a maximum of 21 days or 45 days. Our Single Trip policies just cover that one single trip that you provide dates for at the time of purchase.  So don't get confused, if you are looking for one x 12 month trip, you need single trip cover.

  • Are There Any Age Restrictions On Frequent Traveller Policies?
  • Yes, these policies are only available for customers under the age of 64. Don’t worry if you are 64 and over, we can still cover you on a single-trip basis on a Comprehensive policy.

  • Does an international frequent traveller policy cover domestic trips?
  • Yes. If you buy an international frequent traveller policy then all your international and domestic trips that year will be covered under the same policy. Full t&cs apply

  • what is considered a 'holiday' domestically?
  • If you pop next door and stay at your neighbours home we do not class this as going away on a trip. For your annual policy to 'kick-in' you must be more than 100km from your home for us to consider it a holiday.

  • Can More Than One Person Go On A Frequent Traveller Policy?
  • Yes, of course. A Frequent Traveller policy covers you and the members of your family or even friends who go with you on your journey and are listed as covered on your Certificate of Insurance. You must be travelling together for at least 75% of all trips taken throughout the year for the policy to be valid.

  • Do I Need To Tell 1Cover When My Trips Take Place?
  • One of the benefits of having a Frequent Traveller policy is that you do not have to contact us each time you travel within the dates that your policy covers. Even though you don’t need to tell us, we advise that you keep track of bookings or receipts in case anything happens and you need to claim.

  • What Happens If I Come Home Early?
  • Your policy covers the full duration of your trip. There are no refunds should you come home earlier than planned.

  • How Far Out Can I Book My Frequent Traveller Policy?
  • You can only purchase an a Frequent Traveller policy 30 days before your first trip.

  • Is an annual frequent traveller policy suitable for business travellers?
  • With 1Cover’s annual Frequent Traveller policies, some of the things that might suit business travellers are:
    -  luggage and personal effects cover. We provide this benefit automatically automatically, plus you can increase specific coverage for high value business equipment, such as laptops, up to the value of $5,000. Check the Policy Wording for details.

    - cancellation and lost deposits. This is provided in case you have to cancel your plans due to unforeseen circumstances outside of your control. We also cover Alternative Travel Expenses. This means if you encounter transport delays, you may have provision to claim if you need to reach important events such as conferences or meetings.

  • Do I Need To Tell 1Cover When My Trips Take Place?
  • With a Frequent Traveller Policy you don't need to tell us when you're travelling, or where you’re going and you don't need to book your insurance every time you take a trip.

You can make as many trips as you want as long as each one doesn't exceed your chosen number of days.  If your trip is longer than what you chose at the time of purchase, (i.e 21 or 45 days), then you will need to buy a single trip policy to cover that trip.
