Cruise cover is an optional extra you add to your travel insurance policy to ensure you’re protected while travelling on a cruise ship. Standard travel insurance may not include cruise benefits, so adding our Cruise Pack gives you cover for onboard medical treatment, evacuation, missed ports, cabin confinement and more.
Yes, if you are going on a cruise for 2 nights or more, you must select the Cruise Pack and pay the additional premium. You must add it to both Domestic & International cruises.
Cruise travel insurance with 1Cover covers key risks unique to being at sea. This includes onboard medical expenses, evacuation to shore, trip cancellation, missed ports, missed departures, cabin confinement, lost belongings and cover for formal attire. It also extends to certain prepaid excursions if you have to cancel due to illness or other insured events. Limits and exclusions apply, please check the PDS for details.
Yes, in the event that a medical emergency onboard your cruise occurred, you would be covered for your medical treatment provided that you have added the Cruise Pack on to your policy. If you are cruising along the New Zealand coastline or within New Zealand waters, you would need to select the Domestic Policy with the Cruise Pack add-on. This includes medical benefits as well as all the other benefits of the Cruise Pack. You should choose the New Zealand Cruise or Domestic Cruise region for your destination. Whilst in port or travelling domestically on land, there’s no cover for your medical costs (including any out-of-pocket expenses) in New Zealand under your policy. Once your ship leaves port, even if you’re cruising New Zealand waters, you’re no longer covered for hospital or medical expenses by public health or your private health care provider. Your policy will cover you for emergency medical expenses incurred on-board the ship whilst cruising. Basically, where you can use your public healthcare or private health insurance to cover your medical expenses or hospitalisation, there’s no medical cover.
You should include all destination countries that you’ll be visiting, however, you can select a region if you are making multiple stops within the same area. For example, you can choose ‘South Pacific’ or ‘Europe’ or ‘USA’ depending if you are going on a Pacific, Mediterranean or Caribbean cruise. If unsure, list all destinations separately.
Yes. Seniors can purchase cruise travel insurance as long as they meet the age limits for their chosen policy. To be covered, you must also add the Cruise Pack to your policy before departure. Seniors are often more at risk of illness or needing medical treatment at sea, where costs can be extremely high, so having cruise cover in place is especially important.
