If I Have An Accident In My Rental Car, Do You Cover Third Party Damages?

We don't offer third party damages cover, but we provide cover on a rental car excess. The cover we offer extends to the excess on the rental car, or the repair cost (whichever is lesser).

This means that if your rental car is damaged or stolen while in your possession, we will cover for you for any excess that you are liable to pay.

Our policies (except for Medical-only) generally cover you up to $5,000 (the Visitors to New Zealand policy covers you for $2,500) for the rental car excess that could be incurred in the event of an accident, whether it's your fault or not.

We also cover you for up to $500 to return your rental car if you are seen by a medical advisor and you have been deemed unfit to do so.

There is also the option to increase the car rental excess amount if you want to. For an additional premium, you can increase your Rental Vehicle Excess Add-On to $6,000, $7,000, or $8,000.
