NZ government advice for Republic of Korea
When travelling to Republic of Korea, you should always get travel insurance in case the worst happens. To help you ensure you travel safely, we have included the travel advice from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade for Republic of Korea.
There is high risk to your security in the North-Western Islands (including Yeonpyeong-do, Daecheong-do, and Baengnyeong-do) due to an escalation in tensions with North Korea and we advise against all tourist and other non-essential travel to these islands and surrounding waters. In November 2010, North Korean artillery shelled the South Korean island of Yeonpyeong, killing two people and injuring 16 others. Further incidents cannot be ruled out.
We are not advising against travel elsewhere in South Korea. New Zealanders in South Korea are advised to monitor events closely and follow any instructions and advice issued by the local authorities.
New Zealanders travelling or living in South Korea should have comprehensive medical and travel insurance policies in place.
New Zealanders travelling or resident in South Korea are encouraged to register their details with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, or if already registered, update their details .
