NZ government advice for Germany
When travelling to Germany, you should always get travel insurance in case the worst happens. To help you ensure you travel safely, we have included the travel advice from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade for Germany.
The German Government remains concerned about the possibility of terrorist attacks in Germany.
The German Minister of the Interior Thomas de Maizière said on 4 October 2010 that while there were currently no concrete indications of imminent attacks in Germany, there was a high level of abstract threat, with German interests at home and abroad having been a target of international terrorism for some time.
One example was a suitcase bomb attack on regional trains in Cologne in July 2006, which failed when the devices did not explode. Other planned attacks have been successfully prevented by German authorities.
New Zealanders in Germany are advised to be security conscious at all times and monitor the local media for any information on potential threats to safety. We advise you to follow any advice issued by the local authorities.
New Zealanders travelling to or resident in Germany should have comprehensive medical and travel insurance policies in place.
New Zealanders resident in or travelling to Germany are encouraged to record their details with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, https://register.safetravel.govt.nz/
