NZ government advice for France

Flag of France

When travelling to France, you should always get travel insurance in case the worst happens. To help you ensure you travel safely, we have included the travel advice from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade for France.

There is some risk to your security in France due to the ongoing threat from terrorism and we advise caution.

Terrorism
In recent years, the French authorities have made statements about the heightened risk of terrorist attack in France and advised that extra vigilance is required.  Terrorist attacks could be indiscriminate and target places frequented by tourists.

On 21 March 2012, a bomb exploded outside the Indonesian Embassy in Paris causing significant damage.  No injuries were reported.

In mid-March 2012 a series of shootings in Toulouse and Mountauban in south west France resulted in the deaths of several people.

There have been a number of sporadic explosions and attacks in recent years in Corsica.  Government buildings have usually been the target of these attacks.

New Zealanders in France are advised to be security conscious at all times, particularly in public places, and stay informed of potential risks to safety and security by monitoring the media and other local information sources.

Civil unrest
Demonstrations and protests occur from time to time in France.  New Zealanders are advised to follow any advice issued by the local authorities and avoid all demonstrations, protests and rallies as they can occasionally turn violent.

General travel advice
New Zealanders travelling or living in France should have comprehensive medical and travel insurance policies in place.

New Zealanders in France are encouraged to register their details with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
