NZ government advice for Chad
When travelling to Chad, you should always get travel insurance in case the worst happens. To help you ensure you travel safely, we have included the travel advice from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade for Chad.
There is high risk to your security in the capital N?Djamena due to the unstable security situation and we advise against all tourist and other non-essential travel.
There is extreme risk to your security outside the capital N?Djamena due to the unstable security situation and we advise against all travel. Travel outside the capital requires authorisation from the Ministry of the Interior.
Violent civil unrest and armed conflict between the army and rebel forces has occurred throughout the country and ongoing rebel attacks could occur at any time. The political and security situation remains volatile and uncertain and could change without warning. There is a high level of violent crime in Chad including kidnapping, robbery and carjacking and an underlying threat from terrorism
New Zealanders are advised to maintain a high degree of personal security awareness and take sensible security precautions at all times. We recommend monitoring the media and other local sources for information about new safety or security risks.
As there is no New Zealand diplomatic presence in Chad, the ability of the government to assist New Zealand citizens who get into trouble is severely limited.
New Zealanders travelling or living in Chad should have comprehensive medical and travel insurance policies in place that include provision for medical evacuation by air. You should ensure that your travel insurance policy covers travel to Chad ? exclusions may well apply.
New Zealanders travelling or living in Chad are strongly advised to register their details with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
