NZ government advice for Argentina

When travelling to Argentina, you should always get travel insurance in case the worst happens. To help you ensure you travel safely, we have included the travel advice from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade for Argentina.

There is some risk to your security in Argentina due to increasing levels of crime and we advise caution.

There have been reports of ?express kidnappings? in Argentina, where victims are forced to withdraw funds from automatic teller machines (ATMs) to secure their release.  Violent theft (theft with assault) is increasing in Buenos Aires.  New Zealanders in Argentina are advised to be security conscious at all times.  No resistance should be given if you are the victim of a robbery or mugging as this could lead to an escalation in violence.

New Zealanders in Buenos Aires should be cautious in all tourist areas, particularly the Retiro Bus Station, La Boca, San Telmo and Congreso.   In La Boca, travellers should stick to the main tourist streets, and avoid the area after dark.  The Argentine police operate a 24-hour multi-lingual phone line for tourists in Buenos Aires, which can be accessed by dialling 4346 5748.

There are frequent protests and demonstrations in Argentina, particularly in Buenos Aires.  New Zealanders are advised to avoid any demonstrations and political rallies as they have the potential to turn violent.

New Zealanders travelling or living in Argentina should have comprehensive medical and travel insurance policies in place.
